School meal cost clanger
OFFICIALS at the council have admitted they made an error in an email to the region's parents about school meal price changes. The communication went out during the Easter holidays to let families know the cost was rising. However, the email incorrectly stated the P6 and P7 meal price as £2.40 - and clarifications had to be sent out again. Commenting on what happened, a council spokesperson said: “The error was acknowledged and corrected. A follow-up communication confirmed that the correct price for P6 and P7 meals is £2.20, while pupils in P1 to P5 remain entitled to free school meals. "Prices shown on published menus and flyers were correct throughout. “As part of the budget agreed in February, councillors approved a five per cent increase in the price of primary school meals, raising the P6 and P7 charge from £2.10 to £2.20 for the current financial year. "Councillors also agreed an increase in the secondary school meal price from £2.20 to £2.40. Both changes came into effect on 1 April. “Pupils who receive free school meals are not affected by these changes.”
