THE ongoing Lockerbie roundabout saga, near the Queens Hotel, will be discussed again next week.

Frustrated community councillor Roger Claymore is still seeking clarification from Dumfries and Galloway Council after the group’s curling stones tribute idea was brushed aside. This was due to the height of the stones which officials fear could hamper drivers.

But Mr Claymore revealed he asked a retired roads officer about it and he gave him a different view.

He said: “I was disappointed with what the roads department said about it being too high, it was frustrating for myself.

“After the knock back, I asked someone who was in the roads department but is now retired and he had a very different opinion on it.

“There’s two options here. The first is what we agreed to put in the centre of the roundabout, or the alternative of putting it to the side of the road.

“I have to go and meet the people who were going to sponsor the stones to see how they feel about it.”

Annandale North councillor Carolyne Wilson has been asked to confirm with the roads department about the line of sight.

It’s hoped there will be an update at Tuesday’s meeting.
