ROAD Safety Scotland are coming to the region next month with a roadshow aimed at mature drivers.

It’s part of their Fitness to Drive campaign, encouraging mature drivers to reflect on their driving and take action to keep driving safely and confidently for as long as possible.

They will be at Caulders Garden Centre at Carrutherstown on November 19, 20 and 21, talking to older drivers about the changes to look out for and the steps that can be taken to keep driving safely for longer.

A spokesperson said: “Our friendly fitness to drive team will be on hand to chat to drivers about their experiences and to provide tips and advice on steps that can be taken to remain safe behind the wheel. “There will also be opportunities to find out more information about Mature Driving Reviews on the day and to sign up if you would like to try one.

“Just like you get your car MOT, it’s important for mature drivers to have a driver MOT. As we age, deteriorating eyesight, slower reaction times and medications can affect driving. You may find you start to avoid driving at night, use the car less, drive shorter distances along quieter routes, and generally avoid motorway driving where possible.”

Meanwhile, the organisation has also shared their top tips that more mature drivers should bear in mind. They are:

Book in for an eye exam

Reduce night driving

Plan before you go

Consider refreshing driving skills

Keep an eye on speed

Speak to friends and family about any driving concerns

Make mobility modifications

Refresh your knowledge of The Highway Code

Use hearing aids

Avoid distractions
