Remembering Rabbie
ROBBIE Burns will be remembered in a celebration event at his local church later this month.
St Michael’s Church in Dumfries is teaming up with Dumfries and Galloway Council Museums present Burns Remembered – For Auld Lang Syne, a heartfelt tribute to the bard, who died locally in July 1796.
It will take place at the church on Sunday July 27, 4-7 pm, and will honour his life and legacy.
A piper will lead a procession to Burns’ original burial place and then the Mausoleum where personal tokens of remembrance can be laid in quiet tribute.
Following that, there will be narration, poetry, and song inside, including performances by the Cairn Chorus, young Burns winners, and special guests Fiona Armstrong, Gerry Robertson and Gerry Carruthers, culminating in a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne with organ, choir and all joining in.
Afterwards there will be refreshments and a toast in the hall.
Tickets are £6, to support the event and work of the church, and available online via www.stmichaelsdumfries.co.uk or at the door on the night .
