Remembering Lockerbie victims

A QUIET acknowledgement of the 32nd Lockerbie Air Disaster took place on Monday.

Wreaths were laid on both sides of the Atlantic, in memory of passengers, crew and Lockerbie residents who were killed on December 21 1988 when Pan Am flight 103 exploded over the town.

In Lockerbie’s Dryfesdale Cemetery, a small crowd gathered, including members of Lockerbie Community Council who laid flowers on behalf of the World Wings LAX Pan Am staff and others.

On Friday, rector of Lockerbie Academy Brian Asher was joined at the memorial garden in Dryfesdale Cemetery for a wreath laying by current Syracuse scholars Mary-Ann Mcvey and Aiden Kevans.

Meanwhile in America, a memorial service was held at Syracuse University, which lost 35 students in the terror attack.

An online Celebration of Life service was also organised by the Remembrance and Lockerbie Scholars and a statement read: “We believe it is imperative to take a step back and celebrate the lives of those who were lost as a result of the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing, and find joy within these trying times.

“The virtual Celebration of Life is a beautiful collection of poems, songs and other performances from people around the world.”
