Region's furlough uptake revealed

BETWEEN the start of the first lockdown on March 23 and the end of September, 3600 employees in the region were furloughed.

Data released by HMRC shows that six per cent of an elegible 60,400 workers in Dumfries and Galloway had their pay subsidised by the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), which was extended to March 2021 earlier this month.

Furthermore, 61 per cent of self-employed workers in the region made claims for the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) between August 17 and October 31.

The 5200 payments amounted to a value of £13.5 million, averaging £2600 each.
