Region to host events for careers week
?EVENTS are set to take place across Dumfries and Galloway to help people find out more about career opportunities and the support available to benefit from them.
The Skills Development Scotland (SDS) careers information, advice and guidance team, local organisations, support services and employers will be delivering activities in schools and community spaces between November 10-14.
With the theme of ‘Shape the Future’, the campaign celebrates the industries, career paths and opportunities across Scotland, and the support available to help everyone realise their potential.
SDS will host CV MOT stands for Dumfries and Galloway College students, providing hints and tips on developing a resume at Stranraer campus on Monday; and at the Dumfries campus every day.
There will be employability workshops at Annan Jobcentre Plus on 11 November from 2-3 pm and Dumfries Jobcentre Plus on 13 November from 10 am-4 pm, providing information on routes and pathways into growing local industries and help with CVs.
Schools getting behind the week include Dumfries Academy, Dumfries High, Kirkcudbright Academy, St Joseph’s College, Douglas Ewart High, Stranraer Academy and Lockerbie Academy.
Primary school children who visit the Lochthorn Library will be able to get involved in a fun careers related wordsearch.
There are also national, online events taking place for pupils, parents and carers, including three, live online panel sessions each focusing on a different sector. Young professionals from creative industries; engineering and construction; and health and social care will be sharing their career stories through DYW Live, which sits on the E-Sgoil website.
Parents and carers can join Discover! Creative Careers Scotland, Developing the Young Workforce, and representatives from the creative sector in an MS Teams webinar on Tuesday, 11 November at 6 pm to find out about the range of opportunities available in creative industries.
Another free MS Teams webinar on November 13 at 6.30 pm for parents/carers of secondary school pupils will share information and resources to support with career conversations at home.
