DUMFRIES and Galloway has been named the top area in the UK with the fewest repeat criminal offenders. SIA security training provider Get Licensed has utilised ONS data to reveal the UK areas with the most and least criminal reoffenders. This data has also been broken down by age, gender and offence type on a national scale. The South Scotland region has the lowest reoffending rate in the country at fewer than one in ten (8.3 per cent), a relative decrease of 11 per cent since the previous year. Middlesbrough tops the list with the highest reoffending rate, where two in five (40.2 per cent) offenders go on to reoffend. The highest reoffending rates in the UK remain among young people, particularly those aged 18–20 and 15–17. Roughly one in three offenders aged 15-17 and 10-14 will re-offend. Male offenders are 24 per cent more likely to reoffend than female offenders, relatively. Theft is the most common offence among reoffenders at 48.4 per cent, followed closely by public order offences at 36 per cent.
