Ready to celebrate all things Annan

COOKERY classes, swimming sessions and writers workshops are just some of the free events on offer at Annan’s Day of the Region next weekend.

COMMUNITY FUN . . . organisers of Annan’s Day of the Region are gearing up for a big weekend

Around 40 different community groups, organisations, individuals and businesses have joined forces with a voluntary working group to host the celebration of community life next Friday and Saturday.
Organiser Wendy Hamilton said: “Day of the Region has been delivered across Dumfries and Galloway for several years and the time seemed right to get Annan involved.
“There are a whole host of organisations, community groups and groups of people who
give tirelessly of their time to deliver a variety of opportunities for the townspeople and surrounding area.
“Groups are also struggling for sustainability, new members, volunteers and committee members and the whole ethos of Day of the Region is to bring people together, encourage people to feel better connected and more aware of what is available right on their doorstep so it presents a fantastic opportunity to these groups.”
The event has been supported by Dumfries and Galloway LEADER, Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee, Dumfries and Galloway Council, The Shed and Tesco Annan.
And it is hoped that it will make Annanites more aware of the activities currently being
held in the town as well as providing a chance to find out about local clubs and organisations and try something new.
Wendy added: “We are a totally voluntary working group who wanted to see this initiative delivered for our community.
“All of the volunteers have jobs and this is very much voluntary driven with the support of Dumfries and Galloway LEADER.
“There is a fantastic programme of free events and activities for people to come along and have a go so we really hope people will get involved and are part of it. There will be something for all ages, abilities and interests.”
