WORK started this week on a ‘transformative’ extension on a community centre in Dumfries. The development at Lochvale House for Let’s Get Sporty will include a brand-new soft play centre, alongside a welcoming café and meeting space. The Lochvale House Capital Project aims to modernise and expand the facility, which has long served as a hub for employability support, local businesses, family programmes, and community connection. The upgraded centre will offer accessible spaces for early years activities, youth engagement, school programmes, and social events — all designed to strengthen wellbeing and opportunity across Dumfries and Galloway. “This is more than bricks and mortar — it’s about investing in the future of our community,” said David Bradbury, CEO. “Lochvale House has always been a place where people come together. This project ensures it continues to be that place — now with even more to offer.” The build is being delivered by Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd, with financial support from The Holywood Trust, South of Scotland Enterprise, the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, and Dumfries and Galloway Council. Commenting, Sport Minister Maree Todd said: “I was very pleased to mark the start of this project, which is being supported with £1.5 million in Scottish Government funding, and is part of our Programme for Government commitment to deliver regeneration projects. “It’s clear to see how important the hub is to the community and the difference the enhanced facility will make.” Councillor Andy Ferguson added: “This expansion of Lochvale House is a fantastic step forward for our community. By creating spaces where families can thrive, young people can play, and residents can connect, we’re investing in the heart of Dumfries. The Holywood Trust’s Karen Ward Boyd welcomed the start of the project too and said: “The Trust is delighted to support the development of Lochvale House.”
