A RISE in the number of people locally needing the rabies vaccination has been reported.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway this week revealed they has been an increase in the number of people in Dumfries and Galloway needing rabies jabs after returning home from abroad.

Issuing a warning, a spokesperson said: “Rabies is almost always fatal, but is usually preventable. So, if you’re travelling outside the UK: check if you need pre travel rabies vaccination, avoid contact with wild or stray animals, seek urgent medical advice if you’re scratched or bitten while abroad, particularly if the skin is broken.”
