Pupils praised for volunteering
CEREMONIES were held at Douglas Ewart High School and Stranraer Academy last week to recognise the volunteering efforts of pupils. In Stranraer, last Monday accredited certificates were presented to groups of young people who have taken part in accredited groups and programmes delivered by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Youth Work Service. Theses included: the Amazing Summer camps, Stranraer Academy wider achievement groups, Belmont After School Group, Dumfries and Galloway Youth Council, Dumfries and Galloway Young Women’s Network, and young leaders.
Meanwhile the event at Newton Stewart on Tuesday evening was hosted by two young people, Lewis Murdoch and Freya Murphy, and featured a dance performance from the ‘Youth Work Country Dance Troupe’. The groups highlighted included: Douglas Ewart Additional Support Needs and Disabilities Group, KAOS Café, as well as Whithorn After School Group. Speaking on both events, Councillor Tracey Little said: “The hard work and dedication shown by all the young people who received these awards is remarkable and they should be incredibly proud of their achievements. Youth work takes place in communities throughout Dumfries and Galloway and we should take pride in that. These celebration events highlight the significance and value of youth work in Dumfries and Galloway and gives us the chance to congratulate the young people on their achievements.”
