Progress reported in health transformation
SIGNIFICANT steps to transform health and social care services in Dumfries and Galloway have been highlighted. Members of the Integration Joint Board (IJB) received an update, which outlined progress on several fronts, including new models for clinical and service change, commissioning priorities for third-sector services, and improvements in cancer and palliative care. David Rowland, above, director of strategic planning and transformation, said: “This update shows that we are moving toward a more integrated, data-led approach to planning and service delivery. Our aim is to optimise resources, reduce variation and deliver better outcomes for patients across the region.” The board heard about plans to extend improvements to outpatient services, diagnostics, and theatres. It was emphasised that involving clinical and operational teams is central to ensuring changes are effective and sustainable. Mr Rowland added: “We are committed to making sure that funding is directed where it will have the greatest impact, and that decisions are informed by the best available evidence.” Cancer and palliative care improvements were also reported. A local Cancer Steering Group has been established to implement national strategy ambitions, while development of a Palliative Care Improvement Plan is underway to strengthen end-of-life support across the region. Board members welcomed the updates.
