Prison in DoE scheme
DUMFRIES Prison has helped four young offenders gain their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award. The site hosted an expedition for the quartet from HMP and YOI Polmont. The Scottish Prison Service said: “For many years now, HMP Dumfries has kindly played host to DofE expeditions for Polmont’s young people - with their beautifully kept Wellbeing Garden and prison grounds serving as the perfect ‘campsite’. “The group worked together to pitch tents and complete a series of team-building tasks designed to strengthen communication and problem-solving skills, mirroring those completed by their peers in the community. “They also had to choose and cook their own ‘camp dinner’. The following morning, the young men had the chance to join the weekly Jessiefield ParkRun, held in the prison grounds.”
