VOLUNTEERS from companies across Dumfries and Galloway have joined forces to transform a school garden.

Wheatley Homes’ Neighbourhood Environmental Teams (NETs) joined forces with suppliers, contractors at Sanquhar Primary to upgrade the garden area and make it a place children could enjoy throughout the year.

Samantha Clark, Primary 4 teacher at Sanquhar Primary, said: “Without the volunteers, the children wouldn’t have been able to use the garden again this year. The fact they volunteered their time to come in and help us was absolutely brilliant. We really appreciated it - we need all the help we can get, so this has been fantastic.”

Volunteers and partner organisations rolled up their sleeves to weed, tidy, plant and help create a welcoming outdoor space for learning and play.

Jennifer Anderson, Director of Neighbourhoods at Wheatley Group, said: “We were really pleased that so many volunteers were able to join us through the Community Benefits programme to support our latest Week of Action.

“The energy and dedication of the volunteers were truly inspiring. It wasn’t just about making our neighbourhoods look better - it was about fostering community pride, encouraging ownership, and showing what can be achieved when we work together.

“We are grateful to everyone from our partner organisations who joined us and helped make our communities greener and cleaner for our customers.”
