FIVE jobs have been lost at Lockerbie Post Office due to changes in the opening times and services, which begin next weekend.

Due to ongoing financial pressures, the High Street post office and newsagents has been forced to makes radical changes to keep the business afloat.

Explaining more, owner Karen Wilson said this week: “Due to ongoing financial pressures, we’ve had to review how we operate and make some difficult decisions.

“Sadly, the restructure also means we will be making five staff members redundant. This has not been an easy decision, and we’re truly grateful for their loyalty, hard work and everything they’ve contributed over the years.

Other changes to the business include the stopping of newspaper deliveries.

Karen added: “Customers who currently have newspapers delivered should all have had a letter informing them that we will be stopping deliveries on Saturday 29th November.

“Huge thank you to all the young girls and boys who have delivered papers for us over the last 23 years in all weathers.

“We will still have newspapers, magazines available to purchase in our store but we won’t be able to offer a delivery service. All Post Office services will remain the same.

“We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we move through this transition. Thank you for being part of our community.”

The newsagents new opening hours will come into force from Sunday November 30 and include a 1 pm finish on a Saturday and Sunday closure.
