LOVE is in the air this week at the DNG24 offices!

To celebrate ‘Weddings Week’ reporter Amanda Kennedy appealed to locals to get in touch and share their quirky, cute and very thoughtful engagements…after all before you can say ‘I do’ you need to say ‘Yes’!

JOE BURTON and FERN GRAHAM

AS THE sun went down in Ibiza, Fern Graham’s then boyfriend Joe Burton also went down …on one knee. Cafe Mambo was the scene of the couple’s sunset engagement in June last year. Twenty-four-year-old Fern, from Lochmaben, said: “It was so special because he had asked my dad before we left for his permission. “We were watching the sun set and Joe pretends he wants a photo just us and then proposes. “I had no clue it was going to happen and all of our friends were there!” The couple who were together three years before the engagement are set to marry next August.

AMI KIRK and CHRIS SIM

AMI Kirk did not just feel fireworks when fiancé Chris Sim popped the question, but she saw them too. Dumfries man Chris set up a romantic Bonfire Night proposal for his firework loving partner.
Ami, from Ecclefechan, said: “Chris prepared a series of love letters, complete with rose, which led me round Dumfries.
“They sent me to get my nails, hair and make-up done with champagne and the final letter took me to Castle Dykes Garden where I had to find him -I managed to get lost and his mum had to come find me and point me in the right direction – and Christopher was waiting at the top of the aisle of flowers on one knee and the ring with the rest of the bouquet of roses and champagne while his mum and step dad hid in the trees and took pictures.”
The happy couple will tie the knot on Ami’s 23rd birthday this August at Middlebie followed by a traditional reception at her parent’s home.

REBECCA and ROBERT HUMES

SHOWSTOPPING PROPOSAL . . . Scout leader Robert Humes, 22, shocked the entire audience at the Scouts' 100th birthday celebration gang show last week when he dropped to his knee and proposed to girlfriend Rebecca Wightman in front of a packed audience — and she said YES.FULL STORY PAGE THREE

ROBERT Humes made sure his proposal to soul mate Rebecca was show stopping.
The couple, who are both Lockerbie Scout troop leaders, got engaged in September 2014 in front of hundreds of witnesses.
Rebecca said: “It happened at Lockerbie Academy on the stage during the finale of our annual gang show. “It was so special because I had no idea it was happening and scouting is suchabig part of our lives.
It was also the year our group turned 100 which made it even more memorable.
“It was a dream come true as he is my best friend and was such a magical moment I’ll never forget.” Robert enlisted the help of three Scouts and arranged to have Rebecca’s family in the audience when he got down on one knee mid show.
The scouting duo wed in July last year at the Crichton Church in Dumfries.
