Pool team thank shoppers for support
A £1500 grant from Tesco will help keep Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool running, much to the delight of residents. The funding from the supermarket giant is part of its ‘Stronger Starts’ programme and the community pool was chosen by Dumfries Tesco shoppers through the blue token voting system in stores. Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool is a beloved, community-run initiative that was built after funds were raised by townsfolk, who noticed the need for a communal spot for people of all ages to enjoy. The grant provided will help allow the pool to continue running, as well as providing lifeguards with the correct British Standards Institute (BSI) approved equipment to train with. Expressing their gratitude, Jennifer Russell, manager at Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Tesco for this grant, which will allow us to continue to keep entry costs to a minimum despite rising costs elsewhere. “Exercising while having fun in a family friendly environment is incredibly important for children, as is teaching the importance of lifesaving skills, so I’d like to thank Tesco for their support of this.” Claire DeSilva, head of community for Tesco, added: “At Tesco we believe it’s incredibly important to support local schools, community groups and charities throughout Scotland, including in and around Dumfries and Galloway, and we hope this funding has proved beneficial for the Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool.”
