A TEENAGER from Dumfries has been praised by police for his quick thinking. And Nicholas Podsedkowski, 16, this week received a Local Police Commander Recognition Certificate from Chief Superintendent Meikle. This was to formally acknowledge his quick thinking and community spirit when last month, whilst on a school break, Nicholas spotted a two-year-old child who was obviously lost, on their own and wandering across a roundabout at a busy junction near to his school. Nicholas immediately responded, rushing to the aid of the tot and bringing them to safety on the footpath. He then flagged down a passing car and asked for a lift to the nearest police station. A short time later the child’s parent, realising his son was missing, flagged down a passing police car. Happily, officers were able to reassure him his son was safe and both were reunited quickly thereafter. Chief Superintendent Meikle said: “I was pleased to meet with Nicholas and his family today and thank him personally for his actions. Well done Nicholas!”
