DO you have a connection to, or a story to tell about, Lockerbie Old School?

Then Geoff McQueen wants to talk to you.

He’s the community development officer for the Lockerbie Old School Project, which is transforming the site into a community hub.

And he’s got podcast plans ahead of next year’s opening and to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the school first opening its doors, which happened on October 18 1875.

Geoff said: “As the anniversary approaches next month, we’re planning to commemorate this event by producing a new podcast under the Lockerbie Old School banner.

“The podcast is aiming to capture 150 different people’s memories of the Old School, hopefully along with their thoughts on what they’d like the Old School to be when it reopens.

“I’d like to capture memories of attending the school when it was a primary as well as when it was a secondary.

“I’d also like to collect memories from anyone who worked there when it was the air crash enquiry or a council building.”

His aim is to perform short ten minute interviews with as many Lockerbie folk as possible ‘to capture thoughts and memories and celebrate this key Lockerbie property as it moves into the next phase of its evolution’.

And he hopes to release at least one episode in time to celebrate the anniversary and then keep releasing episodes regularly from then on. Geoff added: “Initially we’ll celebrate that anniversary and then it will evolve into keeping listeners updated on the Old School Project.”

Anyone wishing to get involved should email him on [email protected].

The podcast will be available in all apps under “Lockerbie Old School”.
