Petition calls for sheep race comeback

ANGER at the cancellation of the Moffat Sheep Races has sparked a petition calling for the event to be brought back.

Last week the plug was pulled on the annual event just days before it was due to take place, following a licensing issue.

And disappointment that the event has been cancelled was rife in the town this week, with a petition now surfacing in support of the event.

The online petition has been created on website Care2Petitions—the same site that hosted the anti sheep race campaign.

Rick Fears of Oakriggside, Moffat, is the man behind the pro campaign.

He said: “I was incredulous when the races were cancelled at very short notice because some 4500 UK residents signed an online petition, the rest not being from the UK.

“My petition has attracted 270 signatures, so far, but I did not start it to get vast numbers, but rather to allow people a forum to express their support.”

The Sheep Races have been a huge talking point in Moffat, and around the UK, this week.
