Peel Centre restaurant granted conditionally
Fast food giant Taco Bell has been identified as the future occupier of the retail park plot adjacent next to Lockerbie Road.
The area of land has been vacant since the retail park was developed 21 years ago.
Meanwhile, the plot immediately to the north-east has been developed and brought into use as a coffee shop.
Four objections from properties at Fountainbleau, across the road, were lodged after the plans were first submitted in November.
One resident said in their objection: “We the residents of Fountainbleau will be badly affected by this smelly addition, having to live directly across from it.
“The cooking smells, rubbish (rats) noise and vehicular access to our homes will impact our lives on quite a severe level, the added traffic since Costa has opened has been detrimental already (despite being assured otherwise) as we cannot gain access to the portion of the road accessing Fountainbleau from the right and the queues holding us up on the left.
“The council marked up the road to allow us access but it’s been eroded over time.
“Perhaps it’s time the council listened to its taxpayers.”
Another added: “Significant adverse noise impacts, harm to residential amenity – due to inadequate separation, and worsening traffic and safety conditions – I respectfully request that planning permission be refused.
“Should the council be minded to approve, the proposal should at the very least be re-designed and relocated further within the Peel Centre site to minimise harm to neighbouring properties, supported by new and robust assessments of noise and traffic impacts.”
Conditions attached to the approval include that work on the development must begin within three years and that the restaurant shall not open to the public outwith the hours of 7 am and 12 am, in order to preserve the residential amenity of adjacent properties.
