Pair of properties set to star in TV homes show
TWO properties from the region are going head to head in the popular Scotland’s Home of the Year TV show.
The Artful Townhouse in Dumfries and Craigmount near Dalbeattie are finalists in the south region, against The Coach House near Peebles.
And in the episode, due to be shown on the BBC next week, judges Anna Campbell Jones, Banjo Beale and Danny Campbell visit all three and give them marks out of ten.
They start with the Artful Townhouse in Dumfries, above. Home to Fiona Lee and her husband Ben for seven years, the architecture of this upper Georgian maisonette is an art haven which celebrates a mixture of historical periods and characterful interior styles.
Fiona lists her favourite thing as the staircase and cupola at the top which fills the house with light. Also, the original shutters and wooden floors.

She said: “The style is eclectic, east meets west and vintage, rather than antique.
“I inherited the grey walls and marble effect staircase with the house. Furnishing and additional decoration reflects my time living in Asia as well as the furnishings gifted to me by friends and family on my return. I enjoy art and my collection was largely built whilst running the Kirkcudbright Art Tour.”
She enjoyed welcoming the TV team to town but added: “Its pending appearance on the television is rather nerve racking!”

Next up is a Victorian semi-detached house near Dalbeattie. Craigmount is home to the Osborne family of Ozzy, Laura, daughter Grace and Ethel the pug.
The property’s coastal views initially won the family over, and they made it their own by renovating and adding a tasteful extension to the original granite building, reworking the kitchen and living spaces to move in 18 months ago.
It boasts a bold and colourful interior and Laura said: “The view was one of the design inspirations as we wanted to utilise it as much as possible in our design. We did this by adding Velux windows and adding a wraparound extension. We wanted to get a sea view from as many rooms as possible.
“Our favourite thing about Craigmount is the view we get to wake up to every day. Our favourite feature is the original exterior granite wall which we made into an interior feature wall. We added surround lighting which shows off the sparkle in the granite stone. It’s quite spectacular at nighttime.”

The third and final contender in the South region is The Coachhouse, a modernised traditional home near Peebles set in three acres of mature gardens.
Tune in on Monday night to see which one comes out on top.
