Old School hub heading for completion this spring
AN update has been given on the progress of the Lockerbie Old School project.
Construction of the enterprise and wellbeing hub is now a year and a half in and the end is in sight.
Although completion is slightly behind schedule, buildings works are expected to end in the spring with a summer operational date.
A recent progress report for councillors said: “Officers continue to work with Lockerbie Old School and in collaboration of advisers from SOSE, to prepare for the move from construction phase to operational. Following site handover and fit-out, the new Lockerbie Enterprise and Wellbeing Hub is expected to be open to the public by quarter two of 2026/27.”
Meanwhile, the Lockerbie Old School (LOS) team have also given an update on the situation.
A spokeswoman this week said: “Lockerbie Old School continues to make steady progress as work moves forward to bring the much-loved building back into community use.
“As with many historic buildings, unexpected issues have arisen during the refurbishment, meaning some elements have taken a little longer than originally hoped. However, all is moving in the right direction and the team is looking forward to a busy and exciting summer in the building.”
Once complete, the Old School will offer a range of facilities designed to support the local community and economy. Plans include office space, co-working areas, training opportunities, a community garden and a variety of community activities.
The spokeswoman added: “In the meantime, the focus is on building strong steering groups to help shape how the different spaces and activities will develop. Steering groups are being formed to guide different areas of the project, from community activities to the garden and workspace. They give local people a chance to share ideas, shape plans and help ensure the building reflects the needs and ambitions of the community.
“Anyone with an interest, skills or simply enthusiasm is warmly invited to get involved.
“The team would like to thank the community for their continued support and patience as the transformation continues.”
