Newton Stewart gets ready to go green again
AN annual celebration of sustainable living will take place in Newton Stewart again next month.
Now in its fifth year, Green Fayre is returning to Vibe 75 on May 9 and will again be co-hosted by the Newton Stewart Initiative.
The one-day event recognises sustainability and ‘Biosphere life’ in all its forms with information stands and hands-on activities ranging from wildlife projects to repair-reuse-recycle schemes.
As in previous years there will be both a clothes swap and a seed and produce swap, while the pop-up café will be hosted by Biosphere Certification Mark awardee Teapots Catering.
Attendees will be able to connect with organisations offering volunteer placements and skills training opportunities, and speak to the Biosphere team about support available for community and environmental groups within the UNESCO region.
Confirmed guests include representatives from the Solway Firth Partnership, Bee Positive and Kilsture Forest Community Group, the Machars and Cree Valley Climate Action Network, Scotland’s Gardens Scheme and Species on the Edge. Lochryan Wild Venison, Veavae and OmeTeotl will also be running stands.
Lindsay Banks, from Newton Stewart Initiative, said: “Through past Green Fayres we have seen partnerships formed, networks growing and an increase in the interest in sustainability and recycling from attendees."
Faith Hillier, of the GSAB Partnership, said: “Green Fayre has been embraced by Newton Stewart and the wider population across Wigtownshire as a showcase for local climate action, conservation and enterprise that works for people and nature.
"This year’s Green Fayre is even more special as the fifth anniversary event and we’re looking forward to another great turnout for 2026.”
