New tartan needs support
DYSLEXIC people in Dumfries and Galloway are being urged to show their support for a new tartan. Dyslexia Scotland has launched a campaign to create the first official tartan for dyslexia, in a bid to raise awareness of the condition and promote the rights of people with dyslexia. And their crowdfunder to help get it woven launches today. They estimate that ten per cent of this region’s population is dyslexic, with issues around reading, spelling, memory and processing difficulties. Local branch chair Garry Anderson said: “Although one tenth of our community is dyslexic, too many are still lost in the margins of society. We’re inviting the whole world to be part of Clan Dyslexia – to be part of our community, making dyslexia more visible, respected and included, the whole world over.” The six-colour tartan, pictured, was designed by weavers Lochcarron.
