New group takes on loop

THE popular Lockerbie Loop cycle event has been taken over and will relaunch next year.

For the last 17 years the annual ride has been organised by Children 1st Lockerbie Action Group, but this year was their final time hosting and they have now handed the baton over to chairman of Annan Youth Cycling Club Martin Armstrong, supported by chairman of Lockerbie Academy Parent Council John Mackie.

The name of the new organisation will be The Annandale Sportive. Speaking this week, Martin said: “The main difference is that there will be a shorter family ride of about 12 miles to encourage academy pupils and primary school families. The 50 mile and 75 mile loop will be exactly the same as before but will have timing available, known in the cycling community as a Sportive.”

The first ride will be in mid September 2020.
