New and improved park to open this month
WIGTOWN’S new and improved Lightlands Park will open later this month. The community-led project has been a labour of love for the Lightlands Park Initiative (LPI) who have worked closely with Dumfries and Galloway Council to secure more than £140,000 in funding for the project. The wider community itself has also played a significant role, raising an incredible £25,000 towards the upgrades. Now the park is set to open later this month. Congratulating the community on reaching this milestone, a council spokesperson said: “This outstanding effort reflects the pride local people have in their park and the determination to create an inclusive, welcoming play space for children and families to enjoy for years to come.” Alana Marshall, of LPI, added: “Thought this day would never come: after nearly four years in the making the park is finished. Hopefully I’ll be able to update you all very soon on when it will be open.”
