SOUTH of Scotland MSP Emma Harper is the region's latest politician to pledge her support to the campaign for protection of title for electricians.

Spearheaded by SELECT, the construction trade body, the campaign focuses on ensuring that only properly trained and qualified people can carry out vital, safety-critical electrical work in homes and businesses.

Ms Harper has added her name to the organisation's wall of Support to demonstrate her backing, commenting: “I agree that poor quality electrical work carries huge risks to people’s homes, businesses and lives. That’s why I’m backing SELECT’s campaign to introduce protection of title.

“Putting regulation like this in place is not only vital in making Scotland’s homes safer, but making sure that electricians are properly trained and qualified also supports the industry and those who work within it.

“Ensuring that the people we trust to cater for Scottish homes are certified not only guarantees that they are competent to do the work, but also strengthens the entire sector with electricians who are qualified to practise properly.”
