MOFFAT and District Community Council (MDCC) has given notice of its upcoming casual vacancy election.

The process was triggered after a number of its current elected members have struggled to regularly attend meetings in person.

Seven of the present community councillors are due to return, however the group is looking to increase its number of representatives, and is urging members of the community to step forward.

MDCC chair Liam O’Neill explained: “At times with different commitments we can be left with our fingers crossed that we will have a quorum at these monthly meetings.

“Therefore it would be worthwhile for us going for a casual vacancy election at this stage, we can have up to 14 members and if we can boost our numbers it would give us a bit more balance and certainty at these meetings. So we will ask Dumfries and Galloway council to organise an election for us and hopefully people will step forward to join.”

The full details of the election will be shared in the coming weeks.
