More digs planned at Burnswark

ARCHAEOLOGISTS have been given the green light for another dig at Burnswark with the aim of finding out more about a Roman siege there.

The Scottish Government has agreed to the work, which will look for evidence of the important siege in 140AD, or whether it was just a training exerciseIt is expected that two trenches will be dug to examine the site further.

The site would be fully reinstated after the excavations.

Historic Environment Scotland said it believed the work could deliver “nationally important public benefits

Meanwhile, a reconstruction of the siege can be viewed at the Trimontium Museum in Melrose, where visitors use headsets for a virtual walk-through of the battle.
