Missing links site highlights travel issues
A NEW website is shining a light on the ‘missing links’ in Dumfries’ active travel network.
Developed by Cycling Dumfries, the missing links website is a continuation of the group’s efforts in the hope of encouraging the authorities to do more to enable people to walk, wheel and cycle in and around the town.
The website hosts an interactive map of the problems that people have reported when trying to cycle or walk or wheel in and around Dumfries. Each such ‘gap’ has a status and a progress tracker that lists every consultation exercise, plan, or even progress on the ground, that has taken place since the missing links were first identified.
Group convenor Sally Hinchcliffe said: “We’ve been identifying missing links since we started the process in 2012, and while some things have improved since then, everything takes such a long time and it’s hard to keep track of what is going on, or to see the areas where there has been no progress at all.
“So we wanted somewhere that people could go to look at all the problems in one place, and see what was happening about them, if anything. Putting it all on the map has made it really clear how fragmented the network is at the moment - but also how much better it could be. It will also mean people can see what missing links we’ve missed. We can then keep adding to the site, and keep it up to date - and encourage people to talk to their councillors about what can be done to make changes on the ground.”
The site can be found at https://missinglinks.scot/ and anyone who wants to help should get in contact directly with Cycling Dumfries.
