Missed waiting time targets

WAITING time targets for accident and emergency continue to be missed locally – with 20 people waiting over 12 hours last week.

The figures for Dumfries and Galloway for the week ending February 2, supplied by Public Health Scotland, also revealed that 59 faced a wait of more than eight hours.

Overall that week, 75.9 per cent of people who attended A&E in the region were seen within four hours, which is the government target for admittance, transfer or discharge.

Commenting, South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth said: “Every single week lives are being put at risk by these dangerously long waits in A&E.

“NHS staff are working tirelessly to keep services going and keep patients safe, but they are being badly failed by the Scottish Government.

“The four hour target is there for a reason, yet more and more people are having to wait in A&E far longer and that’s just appalling.”
