Milestone year for fundraiser Robin
A PROLIFIC fundraiser has been reflecting on his efforts as the charity he supports marks its tenth year. Former Army reserve major Robin Hood, 69, has been part of veterans charity South West RnR since 2018, raising funds to help get veterans back into work. His most acclaimed fundraising feat saw him pull an 18 stone wooden statue of a Gordon Highlander 456 miles across the UK in 2018. More recently, he has travelled to towns across the region from Stranraer to Langholm and everywhere in between collecting donations. As a direct result of Robin’s efforts, 92 veterans have returned to work as lorry and forklift drivers, ambulance crew and apprentices. He said: “Eleven of those guys were homeless when I met them so to see them back in work really makes everything over the past seven and half years worth it. “The people of Dumfries and Galloway have always been very generous in their donations over the last seven and half years they’ve helped me raise around £800,000 and I couldn’t be more grateful.” As part of his continuing efforts Robin will feature on an episode of Border Life due to air on Friday and he added: “I’m hopeful that it will reinvigorate people about the work of the charity, but, like I said, people are always generous when they see me out and about, whether I’m in Dumfries, Stranraer or Annan I come away with between £100 - £150 in donations. And with the money raised I want to bring the number of veterans up 100 to coincide with the charity’s tenth year.”
