Memorial washed in time for big day
A DUMFRIES couple rolled up their sleeves to ensure the town's main war memorial was clean for Remembrance Day. David and Joy Slater responded to calls and concerns about the dirty state of the edifice outside St John’s Church. David, who is a local councillor, explained: "Many people wanted it cleaned before Sunday, alas this was not going to happen. So on Saturday evening, myself and Joy went down with some clean warm water, some brushes, and some mild soap and spent around an hour trying to make it cleaner, which we did. "It was the fact that this memorial holds the names of many people who gave their tomorrows for our todays, so I felt it was something we had to do. "It’s not perfect but it did make difference and was good to clean it and see all the names of all what they had done for all of us."
