Meadow to the rescue!
A RESCUE dog has been dubbed ‘a hero’ after saving its kennel mate. Shepherd cross Meadow currently lives at the Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre near Glencaple, after being found with five other dogs wandering the B719 between Moffat and Greenhillstairs in July 2023. Now Meadow is being hailed as a hero after saving fellow rescue dog and kennel mate Cookie. Cookie, a small cross breed, recently became critically ill and urgently required a blood transfusion. The centre’s team acted quickly to find a suitable donor, and Meadow was the perfect match. Explaining more, a spokesperson for Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue said: “Thanks to Meadow’s generous donation, Cookie received the vital transfusion just in time and is now making a steady recovery, much to the relief and joy of the staff and volunteers who care for her. “Cookie is currently seeking her forever home. Her remarkable story is a testament to the resilience of rescue dogs and highlights the importance of canine blood donation — a simple but life-saving act that can make all the difference to dogs in need.”
