THERE are currently over 100 reported potholes within Lochmaben and the surrounding areas. According to Dumfries and Galloway Council’s own website, about 120 potholes have been reported within the the royal burgh proper and there are a further 40 reported road defects on the routes heading in and out of town, including the A709 and B720. The areas with the highest numbers of defects include Lockerbie Road, the High Street, as well as Vallance Drive and West Acres. One resident was shocked earlier in the month when they discovered that the council website does not allow for multiple reports on the same defect, describing the situation in the town ‘serious’. Writing on social media, he added: “I have had several serious and possibly damaging incidents with potholes and dropped sinks when driving in and around Lochmaben. I tried to report them but found they were already reported along with over 120 more. “Will it take an accident or cyclist death to kick start some action?”
