Man found dead in Nith
A YOUNG man is believed to have drowned in the River Nith at Dumfries last night. Police, fire, ambulance and river rescue rushed to the Kingholm Road area at about 6.50 pm on Thursday evening after a report of a person in the river. And following searches, the body of an 18-year-old man was recovered. He has not yet been officially identified, although he has been named on social media by devastated family and friends. They have paid tribute to him, as a 'kind soul', 'great friend' and 'a lovely young man'. Commenting on the tragic incident, a police spokesperson said: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.” Fire crews were also involved in the rescue and area commander Derek Heaton, local senior officer for Dumfries and Galloway, added: “We were called at 6.56pm on Thursday, 30 April, to reports of a person in difficulty in the water at the River Nith near to Kingholm Road, Dumfries.
“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and a number of specialist water rescue resources to the area.
“Sadly, one man died at the scene.
“Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.”
