MSP Finlay Carson has praised the decision to create a new Maggie’s Centre in Dumfries and Galloway.

Welcoming the news, he said: “As someone who has championed the creation of a Maggie’s Centre in Dumfries and Galloway throughout my time as an MSP, I am absolutely delighted to welcome today’s announcement.

“The confirmation that the new centre at the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary will be designed by Roz Barr Architects in collaboration with Lily Jencks Studio marks a significant and inspiring step forward for cancer support in our region.”

He continued: “The fact that this centre will be built in the hometown of Maggie Keswick Jencks, above, gives it an even deeper meaning. Maggie’s pioneering vision, providing free emotional, practical, and psychological support to people living with cancer and their families has transformed lives across the UK, and it is only right that her legacy will now be rooted here in Dumfries and Galloway.

“This is wonderful news for local people who deserve the very best support at the most difficult times in their lives. I look forward to seeing this project progress over the coming years and to the day the doors open to what will undoubtedly become a vital and much-loved community resource.”
