Machine magic
BEGINNER sewers are learning the ropes thanks to the donation of two machines to the u3a Dumfries sewing group. They have been purchased with a grant from Thornhill Community Council. And the new equipment is expected to make a real difference to the group, particularly for those who are curious about sewing but have yet to invest in their own machine. Leader Kathleen Simpson explained: “A good sewing machine is a significant investment, and not something everyone wants to buy before they know whether sewing is for them. These new machines will make it much easier for anyone who would like to give sewing a try, but does not yet have their own machine, to come along and join us.” The sewing group is just one of almost 40 different interest groups offered by u3a Dumfries, providing opportunities for people to learn new skills, share interests and stay socially connected in a friendly and informal environment. Anyone interested in joining or finding out more should visit the website at dumfries.u3asite.uk. The Dumfries group has over 270 members from Dumfries, Sanquhar, Thornhill, Moffat, Lockerbie, Castle Douglas and Annan.
