Lockdown extended

The national lockdown has been extended to mid February - as yet more are hospitalised from covid in Dumfries and Galloway.

At the same time as Nicola Sturgeon was addressing MSPs this afternoon, figures were released showing another record number of patients in the region’s hospitals due to the virus.

There are currently 85 people receiving treatment locally, with 15 of them critically ill in intensive care – up from 60 a week ago.

As a result of the pressure on services at DGRI, two wards were yesterday opened at the former Cresswell maternity unit, now named Mountainhall. They are being used for non covid patients.
