Lochmaben Gala work on new plans

A GALA day with a difference is being planned for Lochmaben.

Not letting Covid-19 spoil the annual royal burgh festivities, the dedicated gala committee is working on marking the occasion while adhering to social distancing guidance. And to bring some summer cheer to Lochmaben, the committee organised for gala bunting to be erected along the High Street and have had a bespoke ‘Thank You’ to the NHS and key workers banner put up near the church hall for all to see.

Committee chairman Stephen Cartwright said: “It was a villager, Lesley Johnson, a supporter of the gala, who suggested to us about something to show our support and appreciation to the NHS and key workers, like putting up the gala bunting. And thanks to Macpherson Engineering, the bunting is up and we also decided a banner would be a good thing too.

“The committee’s Avril Watson came up with this fantastic design, myself my and son Joshua, who is also on the committee, managed to get it erected it this week. “Gala day as we know and love it this year sadly will have to be cancelled, but we are still planning gala day with a difference.

“All I can say now is there will be no public gathering in accordance with government guidelines but will still be loads of fun as always.”
