Lions keep up the support
IT’S been another busy few weeks of generosity at Dumfries Lions Club.
They made a £500 donation to the local Ambulances for Ukraine organisation, who have already made nine vehicle journeys to Ukraine this year loaded with medical supplies, equipment, clothing and toys to help orphaned children and adults.
Club spokesman John MacColl said: “Andrew MacDonald, who heads up the local organisation and who has been on all of these journeys, gave a talk at our recent club meeting about the terrible situation in Ukraine and we had no hesitation in making a donation to enable him and his team to carry out their excellent work in supporting those who are suffering terribly in that country.
Meanwhile, Lions Stuart Armstrong and Jock Carlyle completed a 500 mile round trip to Lions HQ in Birmingham with approximately 20,000 pairs of spectacles collected in Scotland, including 3000 pairs from the Dumfries area project..
The glasses are to be sent to Medico France in Le Havre where they will be restored, graded and shipped to countries such as Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal for distribution by local charities to eye camps.
