EXCITEMENT is building in Dumfries ahead of the town’s Christmas lights switch on tomorrow night.

And as well as the big light up, which will be carried out by Queen of the South Macy True, there’s a packed programme of entertainment in the town centre from 4 pm.

Bringing the party is Rosehips - also known as “Producer Rose” from Clyde 1 radio, while local artists Paix will sing a soulful mix of Christmas songs and some of her own.

Players from both Queen of the South and Solway Sharks will be dropping by, as will the panto stars from the Guild of Players.

A new local emerging talent spot will feature brand new band The Hazards, and also providing the music will be Dumfries Town Band and Dumfries Community Choir.

Dancers from In Step and Next Level will have all the moves and have been rehearsing hard for their appearance.

And it’s hoped there will be a live-link with a children’s choir in Dumfries’ twinned town, Gifhorn, Germany.

Mark Smith from the festive event’s organisers, Dumfries Partnership Action Group, said: “The biggest part of our night is awaiting the arrival of our secret mystery guest. We can’t believe we’ve managed to bring this magical legend to Dumfries, but we can’t tell you who it is quite yet!

“Don’t forget we also have our reindeer led parade where we loop around via the Whitesands as the Lights of Hope brighten up our town, bringing Christmas joy over the festive period and a beacon of hope during our darkest months of January and February.”
