Lets licence renewal deadline is approaching

DUMFRIES and Galloway Council is working with short-term let owners as the time is approaching to renew licences. This affects around 1700 license holders across the region, with the majority of renewals required in early 2026. The council has issued reminders to notify owners in advance of their renewal date. Owners are asked to check their inboxes for emails from [email protected] and act promptly to ensure their licence remains valid. Renewal applications must be submitted three years from the date the original licence came into effect. Renewing on time will ensure properties can continue to be let and reduce any potential downtime while waiting to be relicensed. Anyone planning to operate a new short-term let, or currently doing so without a licence, is required to apply via the Short-Term Lets section of the council’s website. Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, councillor Andy Ferguson, said: “We know how important short term lets are to our local economy and tourism sector. “The renewal process is vital to ensure high standards and safety for visitors and residents alike. “We encourage all owners to look out for their renewal reminders and get their paperwork in order as soon as possible.”
