Leisure centre back in action after refurb
MERRICK Leisure Centre will reopen next month following some refurbishments.
The council-owned swimming pool and gym has been closed for a period of time to allow for extensive work to the ventilation and water system as well as upgrades to the the shower, toilet and changing areas.
Announcing the re-opening date, councillor Jackie McCamon said: “I am happy to announce that the re-opening date of the Merrick swimming pool is Saturday, November 1.
“After the extensive work to the ventilation and water systems, the facility will offer a much better swimming experience to members and customers.
“The upgrade of the customer areas - the shower, toilet and changing areas on both wet side and dry side - refreshes these facilities and will provide an environment that will be more comfortable to all our users.
“The building has also benefited from a refresh of paint in many areas to complete the transformation.
“Officers have responded to say that external decoration was considered as part of the capital project however due to budget constraints they had to prioritise internal works in accordance with the initial project scope.
“There’s no plans to revisit this at the moment with other priorities competing for a limited budget.”
