Leah’s hair-raising charity efforts make family proud

A LOCKERBIE teenager has ‘braved the shave’ for a charity close to her heart.

Leah Muir has raised £523 so far after shaving off all her hair in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

And with another week of donations left, she’s hoping the final total will be even more.

The 16-year-old had her head shaved at Who’s Next salon in Lockerbie by barber Gary Lewis.

She was inspired after losing her beloved nana to cancer earlier this summer.

Ahead of her challenge, Leah, whose hair reached 40cm long at the time, said: “I would like to do this fundraiser to help people with cancer who might not have a chance to have their hair back.”

And mum Margaret said: “She has never had short hair and only ever a trim before; her hair was below her shoulders before the shave.

“She hasn’t done anything like this before but is now planning on doing further fundraising for cancer groups as they helped her dad in the past when he went though cancer and they helped her nana who just passed away.

“It’s Leah’s way of saying thank you for helping her family. It’s a great amount raised and me and her dad are very proud of her.”
