SLOW movement on the introduction of the 20 mph speed limit in Moffat has left community leaders perplexed. Dumfries and Galloway Council confirmed in October last year that the new speed limit wouldn’t be introduced until 2026, previously stating: “The design for the Moffat 20 mph speed limit scheme will be undertaken in the current financial year, with implementation planned for the next financial year.” Similar limits are already in place in Lockerbie, Annan, Dumfries and Stranraer after a push from the Scottish Government. Moffat’s community councillors and residents are eager to give their input on the scheme but have been given no indication on when the consultation will begin. Updating residents at Tuesday’s meeting of Moffat and District Community Council, councillor Carolyne Wilson said: “I have gone back to the roads department about the lack of consultation, so they have agreed that they will contact you about the end of the week to start the discussion about the limit for Moffat. “I’m not sure why they haven’t spoken to you all yet, but I think it’s important that you get to feed in because they definitely consulted when the limit when in for Lockerbie.”
