Labour MP suspended from party

SOUTH of Scotland MSP Colin Smyth has been suspended by Scottish Labour. A former Dumfries and Galloway councillor, Smyth has represented the region for the party at Holyrood since 2016, but as of today he is listed as an independent on the Scottish Government website and his listing had disappeared from Scottish Labour’s website too. This afternoon a Labour Party spokesperson said: "The whip has been removed from Colin Smyth MSP, pending an investigation. We cannot comment further on this matter while the investigation is ongoing." Mr Smyth’s office was contacted for comment.
