Jodie’s running ?for diabetes charity
LOCKERBIE lass Jodie Mundell is putting her best foot forward as she prepares to take on the Great North Run later this year.
The owner of Jodie’s and the Sugar Bowl at Lockerbie Ice Rink will don lycra and her trainers to take part in the 13.1 mile race to fundraise for Diabetes UK.
The charity supports people living with all forms of the condition by providing support, campaigning for better care, funding research and connecting people affected to help them live well with the condition, aiming for a world where diabetes can do no harm.
Jodie was diagnosed with type two diabetes and hopes that by taking part in the half marathon she’ll improve her own wellbeing as well as raise money for the charity.
She said: “They really do a great job of helping people after they’ve been diagnosed. I went to one of the diabetes walks in Glasgow and it was nice to talk to people who were going through similar things and get advice.
On her diagnosis, Jodie added: “I knew something was wrong, I was always tired and I’d struggled with my weight for years.
“So it felt good to finally get a diagnosis because my body was fighting to survive.”
Although Jodie has never ran a half marathon before she’s already taking her training seriously heading out with the Lockerbie ladies running group in preparation for her first 10k next month.
Jodie said: “Getting that diagnosis, it’s definitely motivated me with the running and to do the half marathon. I’m not a runner at all, I only started properly in October but I’ve signed up to do the cross-border 10 k next month and I thought ‘screw it’ and signed for the Great North Run to really give me something to work towards.
“It will be a challenge but I’m excited to do it, plus every pound helps an amazing cause, and every donation give me more motivation to see it through.”
